4 Ashkenazi, Baermann (Issacher Berman ben Naphtali, ha-Kohen); Einhorn, Zeeb Wolf Sefer Midrash rabah 'im kol ha-ma'alot ke-mevo'ar ba-sha'ar ha-sheni (2 volumes)
Bene Barak Mishor Reprint Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 34 cm
Text in Hebrew. Two volumes. Reprint of: Vilna: Ba-defus ve-hotsa'at ha-'almanah veha-'ahim Rom. Variant title: Midrash rabah 'al Hamishah humshe Torah ve-hamesh megilot. Tear at bottom of spine of volume 1. Previous owner's blind stamp on ffep. Text is clean, tight and unmarked by underlining or notations. Ashkenazi, Baermann was a Polish commentator on Bible and Midrash; lived in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Though the foremost of all Midrash commentators, the only fact known about him is that he lived in Szczebrzescin. Ashkenazi's great merit lies in the fact that he was the first and almost the sole commentator of the Midrash Rabbah (on the Pentateuch and the five Megillot) who combined extensive knowledge of the subject with sound critical judgment. He considered it of primary importance to render the Midrash text as correct as possible. The material upon which he applied his critical acumen consisted not alone of the texts that had been printed up to that time, but also of a number of manuscripts.[JewishEncyclopedia]

Text is unmarked by underlining or notations. Abraham ben Ze'ev Nahum Bornstein of Sochaczew (1839-1910) was a Polish rabbi, head of the bet din of Sochaczew. In 1870, following the death of Hanokh Henyekh, leader of the Aleksandrow Hasidim, he was appointed his successor, but was harassed by slanderers. Abraham founded a yeshivah and was one of the great halakhic authorities of his generation. He originated a special approach to halakhic studies and educated in his yeshivah a generation of disciples who became scholarly Hasidic leaders. Abraham's halakhic works are Eglei Tal (1905), including a study of the laws of the Sabbath, and Avnei Nezer (1912-34), a collection of responsa on the four parts of the Shulhan Arukh. He was succeeded as head of the Aleksandrow Hasidim by his only son, Samuel (1856-1926), who edited his father's writings and responsa on the Shulhan Arukh, and wrote Shem mi-Shemu'el (1928-34) which sets forth many of his father's ideas on Hasidism.[Encyclopaedia Judaica]

20 Grints, Yehoshua M. [Jehoshua] Sefer Yehudit: taazoret ha-nosah ha-mekori be-tseruf mavo, perushim u-maftehot
Yerushalayim Mosad Byalik 1957 First Edition Hard Cover Good No Jacket 24 cm tall
Text in Hebrew. Summary in English and addtional title page in English: Sefer Yehudith [The book of Judith] : a reconstruction of the original Hebrew text with introd., commentary, appendices and indices. 244 p. Wear to the binding with most at the top and bottom of the spine. Tear on bottom inch of backstrip. Also bumping to the corners. Text is clean and unmarked by underlining or notations. The Book of Judith is a deuterocanonical book, included in the Septuagint and the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christian Old Testament of the Bible, but excluded by Jews and assigned by Protestants to the Apocrypha. The book contains numerous historical anachronisms, which is why many scholars now accept it as non-historical; it has been considered a parable or perhaps the first historical novel. Although it was likely written by a Jew during the Second Temple period, there is no evidence that the Book of Judith was ever considered authoritative or a candidate for canonicity by any Jewish group. The Masoretic Text of the Hebrew Bible does not contain it, nor was it found among the Dead Sea Scrolls or referred to in any early Rabbinic literature. Reasons for its exclusion may include the lateness of its composition, possible Greek origin, open support of the Hasmonean dynasty (to which the early rabbinate was opposed), and perhaps the brash and seductive character of Judith herself.[Wikipedia]
