5 Mikra'ot gedolot : 'im 32 perushim (10 volumes)
Nyu York (New York) Bet mishar sefarim "Pardes" (Pardes Publishing House) 1951 Later Edition Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 29 cm tall
Text in Hebrew. Ten volumes (complete). Text in each volume is clean, tight and unmarked by underlining or notations. This is a very heavy multi-volume set. The perushim were disciples of the Vilna Gaon, Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, who left Lithuania at the beginning of the 19th century to settle in the Land of Israel, which was then part of Ottoman Syria under Ottoman rule. They were from the section of the community known as mitnagdim (opponents of the Chassidic movement) in Lithuania. The name perushim comes from the parash, meaning "to separate". The group sought to separate themselves from what they saw as the impurities of the society around them in Europe, and the name literally means 'separated (individuals)'. In the generations prior to their departure for Israel, the term perushim referred to commentaries in the sifrei kodesh (holy books). It was later applied to the Vilna group, alluding to their practice of studying biblical commentaries, not just the Talmud and later commentaries.[Wikipedia]

13 Ashkenazi, Baermann (Issacher Berman ben Naphtali, ha-Kohen); Einhorn, Zeeb Wolf Sefer Midrash rabah 'im kol ha-ma'alot ke-mevo'ar ba-sha'ar ha-sheni (2 volumes)
Bene Barak Mishor Reprint Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 34 cm

Tear at bottom of spine of volume 1. Previous owner's blind stamp on ffep. Text is clean, tight and unmarked by underlining or notations. Ashkenazi, Baermann was a Polish commentator on Bible and Midrash; lived in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Though the foremost of all Midrash commentators, the only fact known about him is that he lived in Szczebrzescin. Ashkenazi's great merit lies in the fact that he was the first and almost the sole commentator of the Midrash Rabbah (on the Pentateuch and the five Megillot) who combined extensive knowledge of the subject with sound critical judgment. He considered it of primary importance to render the Midrash text as correct as possible. The material upon which he applied his critical acumen consisted not alone of the texts that had been printed up to that time, but also of a number of manuscripts.[JewishEncyclopedia]

Isaac ben Jacob Benjacob (1801 - 1863) was a Jewish, Russian-born Maskil, best known as a bibliographer, author, and publisher. Benjacob corresponded with Jewish scholars in Western countries, and was known during his lifetime for his great achievements as a bibliographer, although his monumental work, the Otzar ha-Sefarim, Thesaurus Librorum HebrŠorum tam Impressorum quam Manuscriptorum, did not appear till seventeen years after his death (Vilnius, 1880). It was published by his son Jacob, and contains 17,000 entries of Hebrew printed and manuscript works, with valuable notes by M. Steinschneider. An author-index to the work together with additions has been promised (as of 1906) by Steinschneider (Hebr. Bibl. xx. 73; Festschrift, p. vii.). It is the greatest Jewish bibliographical work in the Hebrew language, and is still the standard bibliography of printed books down to 1863.[Wikipedia]
